Guterres condemns killing of civilians, UN officials in Sudan

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, Sunday condemned the killing of civilians and UN officials in Sudan clashes who had worked for the World Food Programme (WFP) in North Darfur. The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, noted the need to hold those responsible for the killings accountable “without delay,” adding that the Secretary-General is”deeply concerned” about the clashes, according to the UN official website. Dujarric stated that buildings for humanitarian work, including UN buildings,” were bombed and looted in several locations in Darfur.

Al-Mishri and Mevlutoglu review ways to make the electoral process a success in Libya.

The Head of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, reviewed with the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlutoglu, the latest local and international political developments yesterday in Istanbul .

The two parts discussed ways to make the Libyan electoral process successful and came to an agreement on the laws and legislation regulating it, according to the communication office of the council on its Facebook page.

The minister also touched on his recent meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the Turkish-Egyptian rapprochement on the vision for resolving the Libyan political crisis.

Al-Sonni describes his meeting with the UN election support management team as a fruitful meeting.

The Libyan Permanent Representative to the UN, Taher Al-Sonni, described his meeting in New York, with the team of the UN Elections Support Department and the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UNDPPA), as a productive meeting focused on the support needed for Libya in preparation of the upcoming elections.

“We reiterated the importance of the UN and other international and regional organizations role in providing support for the elections in the country, in parallel with the finalization of the constitutional framework and electoral laws, in order to assure fair, transparent, and credible elections.” Al-Sonni said in a tweet.

According to Al-Sonni, the meeting came before a team from the UN Election Support Department visited Libya in support of the upcoming elections this year.

Ministry of Housing and Construction participates in the meeting of the Population and Development Committee of the Economic and Social Council of the UN.

The undersecretary for planning and development affairs in the Ministry of Housing and Construction, Muhammad Al-Sharif, attended the meeting of the Population and Development Committee of the Economic and Social Council of the UN during its 56th session in the USA.

According to the communication office of the ministry, during the meeting, which lasted on April 12 and 13, it was discussed taking measures to continue implementing the ICPD Program of Action at the international, regional, and national levels, as well as in the areas of population, education, and sustainable development.

A training program to support people of the Commission with special needs on evaluating polling stations.

The Support Unit for Persons with Special Needs of the High National Elections Commission organized today, Sunday, a training program via “Zoom” technology on evaluating polling stations, as part of preparations for the electoral process planned for this year.

The program, which is supervised by the Commission’s Systems Department, included sessions over three consecutive days aimed at training operations coordinators, raising awareness and communicating with the electoral administration offices on mechanisms for evaluating polling centers registered with the Commission, and their readiness to receive people with special needs on polling day to ensure their readiness in accordance with generally accepted international standards.

Today’s session witnessed interventions that highlighted some obstacles and the need to take action against them, and presented some lessons learned from previous electoral events, and ways to support units of people with special needs in electoral administration offices in setting up evaluation mechanisms.

The program was attended by the person in charge of the Support Unit for Persons with Special Needs of the Commission, “Magda Al-Katib”, the official in charge of the Support Unit for Persons with Special Needs in the Electoral Management Office in Tripoli, “Bassem Abu Hamida”, and “Halima Belhaj” of the International Organization for Electoral Systems (IFES).

Integrity Commission: An Arrest And Search Warrant Issued Against The Political Advisor To The Former PM

The Federal Integrity Commission announced the issuance of an arrest and search warrant against the political advisor to the former Prime Minister on the background of refraining from disclosing financial disclosure.

It stated in a statement: The judge of the Second Karkh Investigation Court issued an arrest and search warrant against the political advisor to the former Prime Minister for his refusal to submit a financial disclosure statement without a legitimate excuse, as confirmed by the Commission’s Prevention Department, indicating that the court decided to investigate the accused’s places of residence to carry out the order issued against him.

It added: The court relied in issuing the order on Article (19/First) of the amended Integrity and Unlawful Gain Commission Law No. (30 of 2011), which stipulated the imposition of a penalty of imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year for those who refused to submit the financial disclosure form without a legitimate excuse.
