21 Nations Urge Iran to Halt Threats to Navigation in Strait of Hormuz

Strait of hormuz: A joint statement by 21 countries on Saturday called on Iran to immediately stop threats to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as they pose a serious risk to international peace and security.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the signing countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, condemned recent attacks on unarmed commercial vessels and energy infrastructure, and Iran's closure of the Strait. They urged Tehran to cease mine-laying, drone and missile strikes, and any actions disrupting shipping, and to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The statement reaffirmed that freedom of navigation is a core principle of international law, warning that the impact of disruptions would be felt globally, especially by vulnerable populations. It also expressed readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait, and welcomed coordinated oil reserve releases and other steps to stabilize global energy markets.
