Beirut: The Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday welcomed Saudi Arabia's decision to resume imports of Lebanese products, describing it as a strategic milestone for the recovery of Lebanon's agricultural sector and a major boost for farmers, exporters, and rural communities.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ministry noted that Gulf countries accounted for nearly 45% of Lebanon's agricultural exports before 2020, with Saudi Arabia alone receiving around 60,000 tons annually. Following the 2021 suspension, exports to Gulf markets fell sharply, significantly affecting production and farmers' incomes.

Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani said the decision restores confidence in Lebanese agricultural products and opens the door to renewed growth in exports, investment, and rural development. Hani thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, while also commending the efforts of President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and relevant Lebanese and Saudi authorities in facilitating the decision.

The ministry stressed that the reopening of the Saudi market will support agricultural recovery, strengthen food security, and encourage continued improvements in quality control, traceability, and food safety standards.
