Beirut: "Loyalty to the Resistance" bloc member, MP Ali Ammar, has expressed strong criticism over the recent statements made by the Israeli military chief of staff from Beaufort Castle, labeling them as a violation of Lebanese sovereignty. Ammar's remarks come in the wake of the Lebanese authorities' signing of a framework agreement with Israel, which he claims has been used by Israeli officials to justify their continued presence in southern Lebanon. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Ammar accused Israeli officials of ongoing violations of the ceasefire, including attacks on civilians, demolition of homes, and the use of white phosphorus to burn fields. He lamented what he described as the official silence from Lebanese authorities in response to these actions. He further highlighted that the Israeli military chief's remarks, which called on the Lebanese army to confront Hezbollah, serve as an interference in Lebanon's internal affairs, requiring a decisive response from the Lebanese government. Ammar emphasized the importance of defending the national army's role in protecting Lebanon and rejected any attempts to turn the army into an instrument serving Israeli security interests. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for remarks that, he argued, put Lebanon's authorities in a politically vulnerable position by allowing Israel to maintain a presence in the "yellow line." The MP declared that efforts by Lebanese authorities to justify the agreement with Israel, or to interpret it in a manner inconsistent with its intended meaning, have been unsuccessful from the outset. He concluded by urging Lebanese officials to adopt a clear stance, take on their national responsibilities, and reverse decisions that have weakened the country.
