Baabda: The Cabinet session at Baabda Palace on Thursday opened with a security briefing by Army Commander General Rodolphe H©lou, who presented an overview of the situation in southern Lebanon and the ongoing efforts to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, General H©lou provided insights into the current security climate in the south, highlighting the challenges and progress in maintaining stability in the region. The briefing was part of a broader discussion on national security and the government’s commitment to uphold international agreements.
Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006, calls for the cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, and outlines measures to disarm militias and deploy the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon. The cabinet reviewed the steps being taken to ensure compliance with the resolution and to prevent any potential escalations along the southern border.
The session underscored the importance of collaboration between the Lebanese government and international partners in addressing security concerns. The cabinet expressed its support for the army’s efforts and reiterated its dedication to peace and security in southern Lebanon.
