President of the republic, Michel Aoun, met, at Baabda palace on Thursday, with chairman of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti, and an accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Aoun asked his guest to contribute to projects aimed to improve Lebanon’s public services’ sector, such as the rehabilitation of roads and public facilities.

He also highlighted the importance of heeding the energy sector, especially that Lebanon had launched its offshore oil and gas exploration mechanism.

Moreover, he stressed on “the importance of the conferences in support for Lebanon,” and underlined the burden caused by the massive influx of Syrian refugees on all levels.

Aoun explained to his guest the reform thus far achieved in Lebanon, in addition to the procedures relevant to fighting corruption.

“Lebanon will present a new economic plan and practical suggestions to the countries and organization partaking in the Cedre conference,” he said.

For his part, Chakrabarti hailed “the role played by President Aoun in achieving the national reconciliation and for his wise administration of the state,” putting the EBRD capacities at the service of Lebanon’s economic development.

“The EBRD will reinforce its office in Beirut in order to offer the best services for the Lebanese state, especially following the encouraging measures it has adopted on the path of reforms,” Chakrabarti said.

Aoun later received President of the Lebanese University, Fouad Ayoub.
