Minister of Information, Melhem Riachy, maintained that his duty was to protect and defend journalists and their freedom of expression, adding that he refuses to practice his right to stop any TV show or close a media institution.
“I believe there is a fine thread between freedom and repression, and I have made the decision not to cut it,” he said.
“My work and my post entail me to defend journalists and their freedom of press and expression,” he reiterated.
“I am with freedom even if it is erroneous, because words are free and sacred,” he explained.
“It is my duty to protect the free word in order to protect Lebanon,” he concluded.
Riachy made these remarks during a lecture on peace and the freedom of opinion, at Le Gabriel Hotel.
