Berri: Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, met with the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate Council at Ain El-Tineh Palace to discuss political developments and media-related issues. During the meeting, Berri assured that the upcoming parliamentary elections would proceed as scheduled, dismissing any possibility of postponement or extension, and emphasized that there is no fear of internal conflict.
According to National news agency – Lebanon, Berri addressed questions regarding a campaign targeting him and the Parliament, explaining that it revolves around disagreements over the current election law. He remarked that while he is being targeted personally, such attacks are expected from known sources, and he will not respond. Berri highlighted the importance of consensus in reaching an electoral law, criticizing the government’s failure to act on committee decisions and stressing that the responsibility should not fall solely on the Parliament.
Berri also commented on the situation in the South, noting that the resistance has maintained ceasefire for 11 months, supported by international bodies like UNIFIL. He questioned Israel’s adherence to the ceasefire agreement, urging unity among the Lebanese people against external threats. He reaffirmed Lebanon’s openness to Arab nations, particularly Saudi Arabia, maintaining strong relations despite regional tensions.
On negotiations with Israel, Berri mentioned the existence of a Mechanism Committee for discussions, while ruling out political negotiations. He also noted ongoing talks with Syria, contingent on Israel’s withdrawal from Syrian territories. Addressing concerns about depositors’ funds, Berri assured that deposits are protected and no undermining laws will pass. He expressed readiness to convene legislative sessions if a quorum and agreement on attendance are achieved.
