Beirut: Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received a delegation representing Lebanon's Islamic and Christian spiritual leaders, headed by Druze Sheikh Akl Sami Abi Al Mona, to review the outcomes of the recent spiritual summit and present its final statement.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Abi Al Mona stated that discussions focused on national unity, safeguarding civil peace, promoting dialogue, and supporting joint efforts to help Lebanon overcome its current challenges. He noted that Berri expressed openness to dialogue and solutions.
Berri also met with French presidential envoy for economic and financial affairs Jacques de La Jugee and Ambassador Herv© Magro to discuss developments in Lebanon and the region, bilateral relations, and the ongoing Israeli military escalation.
Later, Berri held talks with US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa. Following the meeting, Issa said efforts remain focused on securing a comprehensive ceasefire and clarified aspects of the proposed arrangement. He mentioned a planned "pilot zone" to allow residents to return under the protection of the Lebanese Army and without Israeli strikes, describing it as a model for reconstruction and normalization.
Issa added that Washington continues to work toward a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the return of detainees, and broader stability, stressing that President Donald Trump remains closely engaged with the Lebanese file.
