Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed ESCWA Executive Secretary Rania Al-Mashat on Wednesday, who reiterated the United Nations' commitment to Lebanon and affirmed ESCWA's dedication to maintaining its regional headquarters in Beirut. Discussions centered on economic recovery, stability, and enhancing cooperation with the Lebanese Parliament in areas such as reform, governance, and digital transformation.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Berri also held a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Moussa, who underscored Egypt's support for a comprehensive ceasefire and the complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories. Moussa emphasized the importance of restoring state authority throughout the country. He described the ongoing negotiations as constructive, highlighting a significant alignment between Berri and Lebanon's leadership on crucial national priorities. Moussa stressed that any political initiatives must be built on the foundation of a complete ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal to achieve lasting stability.
In other meetings, Berri conferred with Finance Minister Yassine Jaber to discuss political, security, and financial matters. Later, he met with Cuba's Ambassador to Lebanon, Jorge Leon Cruz, underscoring the breadth of diplomatic engagements aimed at addressing Lebanon's multifaceted challenges.
