Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Tuesday chaired the daily ministerial meeting at the Grand Serail with a number of ministers to follow up on the needs of displaced citizens and assess shelter and relief requirements, in addition to reviewing the general situation. During the session, Defense Minister, Michel Menassa, briefed attendees on the latest military developments in southern Lebanon. Information Minister, Paul Morcos, also informed ministers of his invitation to media outlets to attend a meeting at the ministry aimed at addressing hate speech, incitement and sectarian rhetoric.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, following the meeting, Morcos said Salam welcomed the initiative, stressing full commitment to media freedom and the independence of media institutions. However, he warned that hate speech falls outside the scope of protected expression and is subject to penal law. Salam and ministers also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of food distributed to displaced people and verifying the accuracy of related information before publication. Morcos added that ministers, particularly Social Affairs Minister, Haneen Al-Sayyed, remain available to respond to media inquiries regarding displacement issues in order to ensure accuracy and transparency.
