Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday welcomed at the Grand Serail United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with whom he discussed preparations underway for his visit to New York next week to head a Lebanese delegation to the United Nations General Assembly meeting and deliver Lebanon’s speech. Mikati later met with Caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Hajj Hassan, who visited him in the company of World Food Program representative in Lebanon, Abdullah Al-Wardat. During the meeting, both sides discussed the possibility of setting up a mechanism to purchase Lebanese agricultural products for the benefit of the World Food Program. In the wake of the meeting, Al-Wardat announced that “the World Food Program works on more than one level, as it provides aid to displaced Syrians and also provides cash and in-kind assistance to the Lebanese affected by the crisis, especially those who are below the poverty line.” “We are also working on additional projects, including the provision of nutritious items to Lebanese and Syrian students in public schools (…). All of these products are to be purchased from local markets and distributed in the form of aid,” WFP’s Al-Wardat said. Premiere Mikati separately met with Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Hector Hajjar, with whom he discussed some issues involving the ministry and displaced Syrians. The Premiere then welcomed General Security’s General Director, Major General Abbas Ibrahim. Source: National News Agency – Lebanon
