Bethlehem – Together – Colorectal cancer is one of the most dangerous types of cancer among men and women around the world.

The Health Digest website said that colon cancer occurs when malignant tumors form within the inner lining of the colon due to the accumulation of abnormal cell growth.

According to the Colorectal Cancer Foundation, an estimated 1 in 20 people are at risk of developing colon cancer.

Health Digest explained that genetics may play a role in the risk of contracting the disease, but there are also external factors, such as excessive consumption of alcohol, sugar, processed foods, or red meat.

In addition, some research has found that bowel habits may also increase the risk of colon cancer.

The website said that delaying defecation and holding it for a long time makes the lining of the colon more susceptible to inflammation, and also leads to constipation, so doctors always advise the need to defecate when feeling the need to do so.

Bethlehem – Ma’an – A new study, conducted on about 500,000 medical records, found that severe viral infections, such as encephalitis and pneumonia, increase the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

According to the Science Alert website, researchers found 22 links between viral infections and neurodegenerative cases.

He added that people treated for a type of brain infection called viral encephalitis were 31 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease.

He continued that those who were hospitalized for pneumonia after influenza infection were more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Science Alert also revealed that intestinal infections were also the cause of the development of many neurodegenerative diseases.

He explained that the effect of viral infections on the brain continued for up to 15 years in some cases.

‘It is striking that vaccines are currently available for some of
these viruses, including influenza and pneumonia,’ the researchers wrote.

They added: “Although vaccines do not always prevent disease, they significantly reduce hospital admission rates. This evidence suggests that vaccination may mitigate some of the risks of neurodegenerative diseases.”

CAIRO, The League of Arab States said on Sunday that the collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip portends a major disaster, the spread of diseases and epidemics, and a major famine that threatens the lives of thousands.

This came in a statement by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of the Social Affairs Sector, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, on World Health Day.

The statement condemned the Israeli occupation forces for violating human rights, international humanitarian law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians, and continuing to target and kill women, children, and the elderly, as well as the systematic bombing of hospitals and all health facilities.

It also denounced the Israeli occupation’s continued serious violation of preventing access to humanitarian aid, which increases the risk of health and humanitarian conditions, noting that this matter will have devastating effects on the health of mothers, children and the elderly.

WASHINGTON, The Kuwaiti surgeon at the College of Medicine — Kuwait University — Dr. Moussa Khorshid has been granted the honorary fellowship from the American Surgical Association (ASS).

Dr. Khorshid is the first doctor in the Gulf and the Middle East to be honored with this fellowship.

In a statement to KUNA, he dedicated the certificate to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the people of Kuwait.

Dr. Khorshid, a specialist in endoscopic surgery, said that this achievement adds to Kuwait’s record of earning many high-esteem awards and contributes to placing it on the international map in the realm of endoscopy, and treatment of obesity and tumors.

The AAS, founded in 1841, groups elite American surgeons. This certificate had been granted to 99 doctors of various specialties throughout the world.

Dr. Khorshid had been given another certificate in 2021 from the American ACS (the American College of Surgeons). He was the first to earn it in the Gulf and the second at the M
iddle East level.

Qalqilya – Ma’an – On Saturday evening, a military checkpoint of the occupation forces near the village of Nabi Elias, east of Qalqilya, was exposed to gunfire from a Palestinian car, resulting in a soldier being slightly injured.

The Israeli army said that a Palestinian car approached a military checkpoint east of Qalqilya, opened fire on it, and fled.

He added that the shooting resulted in a soldier being injured by bullet fragments and he was taken to treatment, and his wounds were described as minor.

He added that large army forces rushed to the scene and began combing operations in search of the car that opened fire.

Ma’an’s correspondent in the northern West Bank reported that the occupation forces were on alert around the city of Qalqilya following the shooting, and imposed military checkpoints and closures around the governorate.
