CLASHES IN TUNISIA BETWEEN POLICE AND PROTESTERS OVER A CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDUM

Clashes took place today between the police and about a hundred demonstrators protesting in Tunis against the referendum that President Kais Saied intends to organize in July, a year after his measures, which the opposition considers a “coup”, according to “Agence France Presse”.

The police prevented demonstrators from approaching the headquarters of the Independent High Authority for Elections, the members of which were selected in a different manner upon Saied’s directives, and whose head was appointed by the Tunisian President himself, a measure that people consider aims at extending Saied’s control over the institution.
