CONVOY OF IRISH SOLDIER’S BODY ARRIVES AT BEIRUT AIRPORT IN PREPARATION FOR TRANSFER TO IRELAND

The convoy carrying the body of the Irish martyr soldier, Sean Rooney, who lost his life last week in the southern town of Al-Aqbiya, arrived at air base at Rafic Hariri International Airport, in preparation for being transferred to Ireland.

A special ceremony is to be held on the airport grounds, in the presence of Irish Ambassador to Egypt and Lebanon, Neola O’Brien, Major General Pierre Saab, representing the Minister of National Defense and the Lebanese Army Command, the Honorary Consul of Lebanon to Ireland, Ambassador George Siam, the Commander-in-Chief of the UNIFIL Forces operating in South Lebanon, Aroldo Lazaro, and senior officers in the Army Command and UNIFIL forces, in addition to local and international media representatives.

A plane belonging to the State of Ireland had arrived shortly before to transport the body of the Irish soldier from Beirut Airport.
