Culture Minister Ghassan Salam© Pays Tribute to Late Poet Talih Hamdan

Beirut: Culture Minister Dr. Ghassan Salam© expressed his deep sorrow over the demise of renowned poet Talih Hamdan, a towering figure in Lebanese zajal poetry. In his heartfelt statement, Salam© honored Hamdan as a significant cultural icon, noting the profound impact of his work, which consistently resonated with themes of national and communal unity. Salam© remarked, “With the passing of the poet of the two platforms, Talih Hamdan, culture loses one of the greatest names in Lebanese zajal poetry, described throughout his career as a poet of committed speech and the author of poems in which he expressed the issues of the nation and the people with sincerity and an incomparable tone.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Salam© further extolled Hamdan’s unique contributions to Lebanese culture, likening him to a living embodiment of the nation’s rich heritage. Salam© reflected, “Talih Hamdan was not an ordinary poet. Rather, he was the eloquent memory of a mountain walking on its two legs, carrying history, dignity, and traditions on its shoulders, planting poetry like a young tree on immortal soil.” He emphasized that while the poet’s passing marks the loss of a vital branch of Lebanese popular culture, the roots remain robust, nourishing the timeless verses Hamdan left behind.

In his concluding remarks, Salam© extended his condolences to the bereaved family and admirers of Hamdan, stating, “May his soul rest in peace, and our condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and supporters. We implore God to grant them patience and comfort.”
