NNA – Caretaker Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, received a delegation from the tourism sector in Lebanon, in the presence of Minister Ramzi Musharrafieh.
The delegation included the President of the Federation of Tourism Unions and the Syndicate of Hotel Owners, Pierre Ashkar, the President of the Syndicate of Owners of Restaurants, Cafes, Night- Clubs and Pastries in Lebanon, Tony El-Ramy, the President of the Union of Southern Suburb Syndicates, Ali Tabaja, the Secretary-General of Tourism Unions’ Federations, Jean Beiruti, as well as the President of Mount Lebanon Syndicate, Ibrahim Al-Zaidi.
The meeting broached measures for reopening the sector after Eid Al-Fitr.
After the meeting, Minister Musharrafieh said: “We met today with His Excellency in the presence of the tourism unions, and deliberated on the suffering that the sector has been going through for two years now. Premier Diab expressed his understanding of the problems facing all sectors in Lebanon as a result of the economic, monetary, financial and health crises, in addition to the political crisis and the delay in government formation. We have asked H.E. to give his directives to extend the opening time for tourism establishments until 1:00 AM for outdoor places, and we have also demanded that hotels charge the fees for renting rooms in the national currency for the Lebanese and in dollars for the non-Lebanese. It is normal that we stand by the tourism sector, especially in light of the current circumstances. We reiterate that the reopening of the sector must be accompanied by strict adherence to preventive measures, in order to preserve citizens’ health security and safety, which constitute a priority for us all. PM Diab has promised to follow up on our demands and submit them to the Coronavirus Follow-up Committee”.– Caretaker PM Press office
