Cairo: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry revealed on Sunday that Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty conducted individual discussions with US envoy Steve Wittkopf and various regional counterparts, including Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to explore solutions for de-escalating regional tensions.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khalaf stated that the conversations focused on the latest developments in the region's serious situation. The parties exchanged views and proposals on how to mitigate military escalation.
Minister Abdel-Aty underscored the importance of exercising wisdom to defuse tensions and prevent further escalation and destruction. He emphasized prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy to maintain regional security and stability, which aligns with achieving common interests.
In the current crisis, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan have taken on active mediation roles. Recently, Islamabad hosted a meeting to deliberate on de-escalation and proposals for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting their commitment to regional stability.
