FEDERAL SUPREME COUNCIL ELECTS MOHAMED BIN ZAYED AS PRESIDENT OF THE UAE

The Emirates News Agency announced today that the Supreme Council of the Union has elected Mohammed bin Zayed as President of the United Arab Emirates.

The Council held a meeting today at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

A statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs stated that, according to Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was unanimously elected President of the United Arab Emirates, succeeding Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Members of the Federal Supreme Council affirmed their keenness to fulfill the authentic values and principles established by the late Sheikh Khalifa, which he had derived from the founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and which consolidated the position of the UAE at the regional and global levels and enhanced its various national achievements.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed his sincere appreciation and honor for being entrusted by the members of the Supreme Council of the Union, the rulers of the Emirates, asking the Lord Almighty to guide him in his new responsibility and in serving the country and the people of the Emirates.
