Film show: ‘Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous’, a tale of star-crossed lovers in Beirut

Contemporary Beirut is not usually a fairytale setting, but director Wissam Charaf has created something of a modern fable in his latest film “Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous”. He tells us about the Syrian refugee and Ethiopian domestic worker at the centre of his romance, and why re-writing their dehumanising experiences was a priority in his film.

Next, film critic Emma Jones tells us about the lengthy and existential high jinks of Ari Aster’s “Beau is Afraid”.

Plus, we take a look back at the pioneering career of actor and musician Harry Belafonte, who has died at the age of 96.
