Finance Minister Confirms Imminent Approval of Banking Sector Restructuring Law

Beirut: Finance Minister, Yassin Jaber, on Wednesday stressed that “the banking sector restructuring law will be approved before the end of this month.” Minister Jaber revealed that “the appointment of the Banking Control Commission and deputy governors of the Central Bank of Lebanon is imminent, after which work will begin on drafting the financial gap law.”

According to National news agency – Lebanon, Minister Jaber’s remarks came following his meeting with Lebanon’s Central Bank Governor, Karim Souaid, held at the Ministry of Finance, in the presence of Minister Jaber’s Advisor, Samir Hammoud.

The meeting discussed the outcomes of Souaid’s recent visits to Washington and Paris and his talks with the International Monetary Fund. The discussions also touched on all issues related to the banking situation and the recent circular issued by the Central Bank of Lebanon.
