FRANCE PUMMEL AUSTRALIA AS GIROUD EQUALS HENRY’S GOAL-SCORING RECORD

Current champions France started their World Cup campaign in fine style with their 4-1 victory over Australia, capped by a brace from Olivier Giroud, who matched Thierry Henry’s 51-goal record for Les Bleus.

When Australia scored a shock early goal, it looked like the curse of the World Cup titleholders could be coming for France, but Les Bleus pulled it back and gave themselves a comfortable victory, with notably fine performances by their talismanic presence Kylian Mbappé as well as from Antoine Griezmann and Adrien Rabiot in midfield.
