FRENCH EMBASSY: DUQUESNE IN BEIRUT IN SUPPORT OF ENERGY SECTOR

French Ambassador in charge of coordinating the international aid to Lebanon, Pierre Duquesne, is set to visit Beirut on Thursday and Friday (February 2-3), within the context of a mission relevant to France’s support for the development of the Lebanese energy sector, the French Embassy in Beirut said in a statement.

It added that during his visit, he will assess the situation in terms of the electric interconnection grids needed for the gas and electricity supplies from Egypt and Jordan, respectively.

Before visiting Beirut, Duquesne had been to Egypt and Jordan. He will then head to Washington.

In Lebanon, he is set to meet with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Energy Minister Walid Fayyad, Deputy PM Saadeh Chami, Finance Minister Youssof Khalil, Director General of Lebanon’s Electricity (EDL) Kamal Hayek, and representatives of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. He will also meet with Public Works and Transport Minister, Ali Hamieh, for talks over the reconstruction of the Beirut port.
