French Embassy: Municipal Elections Mark Return to Democratic Normalcy in Lebanon

Beirut: In a post on its official X account, the French Embassy in Beirut on Monday praised Lebanon’s 2025 municipal elections as a milestone in restoring democratic life. ‘The government’s determination to organize these long-overdue elections, originally scheduled for 2022, along with voters’ participation as an expression of civic commitment, brings Lebanon back on the path of democratic life,’ the Embassy stated. It added that the smooth conduct of the vote ‘enshrines the principle of respecting constitutional deadlines.’

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the French Embassy emphasized the importance of these elections in re-establishing democratic principles in Lebanon. The Embassy highlighted that the successful organization and execution of the elections demonstrate a significant step towards political stability and respect for constitutional processes in the country.

The municipal elections, initially set for 2022 but delayed, are seen as a crucial development in Lebanon’s political landscape. The French Embassy’s acknowledgment of the voters’ participation underscores the citizens’ role in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
