Gemayel Emphasizes Expat Voting, Political Cohesion, and State Sovereignty in Talks with PM Salam

Beirut: Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday to discuss the country’s political developments and pressing national issues. Following the meeting, Gemayel praised Salam’s leadership, saying the government must restore State authority and enforce the rule of law, which he described as essential for all Lebanese.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the lawmaker emphasized the importance of ensuring voting rights for Lebanese expatriates, calling on the government to submit a bill to Parliament that allows citizens abroad to vote for all 128 parliamentary seats. “This is the only logical approach, unlike proposals that would either exclude expatriates entirely or restrict them to electing just six MPs, effectively cutting them off from Lebanon’s political life in a way that makes no sense,” Gemayel stated.

Gemayel also stressed the need for unity and solidarity among Lebanon’s political leadership. “This is the only way to save the country and ensure that the logic of the State prevails over the law of the jungle,” he said. The Kataeb leader highlighted the role of the president and prime minister in asserting sovereignty and advancing reforms. He called for completing the disarmament of militias, describing it as “the essential foundation for building the State, attracting investment and aid, reintegrating Lebanon into the international community, and implementing economic reforms.”

Gemayel concluded by stating that none of these goals can be achieved while militias continue to operate on Lebanese soil. He emphasized that unity, coordination, and solidarity are crucial to guide the country toward prosperity, development, and renewed hope for the future.
