Interior Minister Confirms Security Preparations for Tourists and Scheduled Parliamentary Elections

Beirut: Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmad Al-Hajjar, affirmed that the parliamentary elections will be held on schedule and will be “a true reflection of the people’s will and the renewal of political life in Lebanon.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Al-Hajjar reflected on the recent municipal and mayoral elections, noting that they “proceeded excellently despite all the difficulties and challenges that existed.” He emphasized that preparations began shortly after the government was formed, and through determination and effort, the elections proceeded well. He expressed confidence that, just as municipal and mayoral elections were held on schedule after three consecutive postponements, the parliamentary elections will also be on time. The Ministry of Interior is actively preparing, with the government closely following up on the process, a decision made at the highest levels.

Al-Hajjar also highlighted that the Internal Security Forces (ISF) have developed a security plan to protect tourists and the public in Lebanon, aiming to ensure a successful summer season. Speaking in an interview with “Al-Aman” magazine, he conveyed a message on the occasion of the 164th anniversary of the Internal Security Forces, emphasizing the institution’s role as the citizens’ guarantee.

Discussing prison management, Al-Hajjar suggested reopening the Roumieh Prison courtroom as part of solutions to address prison overcrowding. He proposed that the management be returned to the Prisons Authority of the Ministry of Justice, as per the law. He advocated for building new prisons and implementing modern management under the Ministry of Justice’s supervision. There is an existing plan that has not been implemented for various reasons, and he hopes it will be executed soon.

Al-Hajjar praised the efforts of all members of the Internal Security Forces and committed to working with the government to ensure they receive their rights. All efforts are aimed at providing the best service and maintaining security across Lebanon.
