Jordan parliament scraps MP’s immunity

Jordanian Parliament Speaker Ahmad Al-Safadi said on Sunday member of parliament Emad Adwan’s immunity has been cancelled.

The Lower House of Parliament voted to strip MP Adwan of immunity upon request from the prosecution ahead of trial over arms trafficking via Jordan’s border with the occupied Palestine, the speaker told a news conference.

The move came shortly after Adwan returned to the Kingdom Sunday morning following a two-week detention in Israel thanks to Jordan’s diplomatic and security efforts, Al-Safadi elaborated.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s official news agency quoted an official source as saying that the MP, together with several other defendants, would be sent to the State Security Court for trial.
