Beirut: Justice Minister Adel Nassar announced the anticipated date for the indictment in the Beirut Port explosion case, stating: "After the judicial investigator concluded the file and referred it to Public Prosecution, it became clear that work is expected to be completed during or towards the end of October."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, this announcement was made during an inspection tour Nassar conducted at the entrance exam centers for the Judicial Studies Institute. The exams were held at the Faculty of Medical Sciences building at the Lebanese University - Hadath Campus, accommodating around 1,200 students. This event marked the first entrance exam for new judges in eight years. The inspection was attended by prominent figures including the President of the Higher Judicial Council, Judge Suhail Abboud, the Attorney General of the Court of Cassation, Judge Ahmad Rami Al-Hajj, and the President of the Lebanese University, Bassam Badran.
Minister Nassar highlighted the significance of the entrance exams, emphasizing the Lebanese University's role in hosting them. He noted the involvement of the University President, the examining committee, and the Supreme Judicial Council in ensuring the exams' integrity and confidentiality. Nassar stated that the exams were conducted with complete seriousness and integrity, with knowledge, competence, transparency, and objective standards being the sole criteria for selection.
He further mentioned the restoration and renovation efforts at the institute building to accommodate new students. The updates were made in collaboration with the French Institute for the Judiciary, with plans to send judges to France for training. The aim is to develop curricula in areas such as financial cases, human rights, and the philosophy of law, alongside traditional subjects like obligations, contracts, and commercial and criminal law.
Minister Nassar expressed gratitude to the Lebanese University President, members of the Higher Judicial Council, and the examining committee for their dedication. He underscored the importance of advancing the judicial sector with progressive steps.
