Cairo: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met in Cairo with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Badr Abdel Aaty to discuss bilateral relations and recent developments in Gaza and the broader region, particularly following the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the Sharm El-Sheikh summit.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, during the meeting, Abdel Aaty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Lebanon on matters of mutual interest. He highlighted the strong momentum in bilateral relations at both the presidential and ministerial levels and expressed a shared desire to further strengthen political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
The Egyptian minister underscored the importance of convening the 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese High Joint Committee as a framework for enhancing collaboration, implementing existing agreements, and advancing memoranda of understanding, aiming to achieve a qualitative leap in bilateral relations.
Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and national unity, as well as the extension of state authority across its territory, and stressed the need to halt repeated Israeli violations. He called for the full and impartial implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The minister also outlined Egypt’s efforts to ensure the full implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, paving the way for reconstruction and stability in Gaza, and highlighted preparations for the upcoming Cairo conference on early recovery, reconstruction, and development in the Palestinian territory, with broad Arab and international participation.
Prime Minister Salam praised Egypt’s pivotal role in securing the Gaza ceasefire and its support for regional efforts to maintain stability. The PM emphasized that Lebanon seeks to leverage the new regional climate to consolidate the cessation of hostilities. He also noted that the current circumstances present an opportunity to initiate a new phase of Arab and international cooperation aimed at supporting Lebanon’s stability.
