After the meeting, Graziano said: “It is always a pleasure to be back in Lebanon, a land I love, to which I am closely tied and where I spent 3 years as UNIFIL Force Commander.
I met with Prime Minister Hariri whom I know since I was Force Commander and he held the same assignment.
We discussed the cooperation between Italy and Lebanon aimed at reinforcing the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Lebanese security forces. Furthermore, I confirmed the Italian Armed Forces commitment to UNIFIL mission, commitment that started in 1978 and that still represents a priority for our country.
In the last 11 years, we have consistently maintained a pivotal role in UNIFIL, contributing to the stabilization of the area.
With this spirit and looking ahead, Italy is working on the organization of the second Rome conference that will be held next February with the aim to support the Lebanese security Forces.
I also met the Commander of Lebanese Armed Forces, General Aoun, and we are both very satisfied with the bilateral training program that is reaching excellent results in strengthening LAF full spectrum capabilities.
On this occasion, I would also like to pay tribute to all the members of Lebanese Armed Forces and Security Forces who put every day, with limitless endeavor and spirit of sacrifice, their life on the line of duty to defeat terrorism and to protect Lebanon.
Later I will meet the Italian soldiers deployed in the south of Lebanon to whom I will proudly pass the words of great appreciation gathered during today’s engagement with Lebanese authorities, in the presence of his Excellency the Italian Ambassador Massimo Marotti.”
On the other hand, Premier Hariri also met with the World Bank Regional Director for the Mashreq, Saroj Kumar Jha, and the accompanying delegation in the presence of his advisors Nadim Mounla and Fadi Fawaz.
During the meeting, the participants evaluated the investment program in the infrastructure prepared by the government in preparation of Paris Conference. The delegation expressed its support for the program.
