Central Bank Governor pledges to unearth fate of alleged USD transfers abroad

Lebanese Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, on Thursday announced that he would take all the necessary legal measures to unveil the fate of USD transfers to banks in Switzerland, “if they have actually taken place.”

Salameh’s statement came in the wake of an extraordinary meeting at the House of Parliament headed by Finance and Budget Committee leader, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, in presence of Caretaker Finance Minister, Ali Hassan Khalil, as well as president of the Association of Banks in Lebanon, Salim Sfeir.

“We have to confirm whether these transfers actually came out of Lebanon in the first place,” Salameh added.
