Beirut: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport closely monitored the heavy rainstorm that swept across Lebanon on Saturday evening, August 29, deploying field teams to all known flood-prone hotspots on roads under its jurisdiction to monitor drainage networks and intervene where necessary.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, at the height of the rainfall, limited and temporary water accumulation was recorded along the Batroun-Madfoun highway due to the large volume of rain that fell within a short period. The water quickly receded as the drainage network continued to operate, and traffic returned to normal. In areas where rainfall exceeded average levels, no water accumulation was reported at any of the known flood-prone hotspots.

The unseasonal summer storm provided an early field test of the ministry's teams and drainage networks ahead of the rainy season. The ministry will review the data recorded during the storm and continue follow-up and maintenance work at flood-prone locations to reduce the risk of water accumulation and safeguard road users.
