Morcos Emphasizes State Authority in Journalist Confrontation in Kafa’at

Beirut: Minister of Information, Attorney Dr. Paul Morcos, conducted a series of calls with the relevant authorities to follow up on the incident involving journalists who were confronted in the area of Kafa'at while performing their media duties on Sunday. Morcos stressed that journalists must never be subjected to intimidation or obstruction by anyone for any reason, emphasizing the need to ensure their protection so they can perform their work freely and safely. "The state alone is the proper authority to deal with them in accordance with the established procedures and laws," he underlined.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, on a different note, Minister Morcos contacted today journalist Fatima Ftouni to offer condolences on the martyrdom of a number of her family members, and journalist Daoud Rammal offering his condolences on the martyrdom of his brother and his wife, and to check on the health condition of his other brother who was seriously injured as a result of the raid that targeted their home in the town of Doueir.

In the same connection, the Information Minister held a series of calls throughout the week, following up on the conditions of journalists targeted in Israeli attacks, which he condemned as violations of international human rights law. He referenced the four Geneva Conventions and their protocols, which establish customary rules binding on all humanity. "No entity or state can evade them," he asserted, appealing to the international community to "ensure that these provisions are upheld" and to "prevent attacks on journalists, both individuals and institutions," and to "guarantees their protection during wars."
