Excellent Jaafari Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan, on Tuesday launched a broadside against the lead investigator in the Beirut port blast case, Judge Tarek Bitar, against the backdrops of his fresh decision to resume the probe following a 13-month suspension.

“After squandering justice and torpedoing the national value of the port case and its martyrs, Judge Bitar returned with the mentality of a lawless officer,” said Qabalan in a statement, adding that after his recusal, Bitar should not resume the investigations.

“What Bitar is doing is arbitrary destruction and comedy,” he charged.

“What is needed is to rescue justice from the extortion game spearheaded by Bitar for the country is a powder keg,” he concluded.
