NATO chief calls for closer cooperation with EU on ammunition production

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Tuesday called for even closer cooperation between NATO and the European Union to ramp up production of ammunition and defensive equipment.

“The war in Ukraine demonstrates the importance of NATO and the European Union working closely together and NATO Allies and the EU has delivered unprecedented support to Ukraine,” he told journalists ahead of a meeting with EU defense ministers.

“It is extremely important that we increase the production of ammunition. Ramping-up production is absolutely key. So of course, we are always focusing on what more can we do to ensure that we engage even more with industry, that we mobilize even more contracts,” he said.

Stoltenberg stated NATO and partners are providing unprecedented support to Ukraine. He welcomed the announcement by the US, the UK and other European NATO Allies that they are going to start training Ukrainian pilots in fourth-generation fighter aircraft, including F-16s. He stressed that this is part of our long-term commitment to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
