President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Monday welcomed at Baabda Presidential Palace, House Speaker, Nabih Berri, with whom he discussed the general situation in the country in light of the most recent developments and ongoing contacts to deal with the events that shook the region of Qabershmoun in the district of Aley a week ago.
During the meeting, a number of ideas were discussed in the framework of uniting efforts to address the situation that resulted from these events.
After the meeting, Speaker Berri did not wish to make any statement.
Separately, President Aoun received Justice Minister, Albert Serhan, who gave him a briefing on the work of the ministry and the condition of Lebanon’s palaces of justice. Talks between the pair also touched on the status of the judiciary and its independence.
Later during the day, President Aoun, Strong Lebanon Bloc” MP Asaad Dergham, and President of the Union of Jouma Municipalities � Akkar, Fadi Barbar, discussed the needs of the region, especially the establishment of a Lebanese University branch and a military hospital, in addition to road conditions and infrastructure.
Also at Baabda Palace today, a delegation of the General Coordinator of the Patriarchal Youth Committee of the Melkite Catholics, headed by Dr. Cynthia Gharib, invited the President to attend the “Meeting of the Melkite Catholic Youth in the Middle East and the Arab States” which will be held on August 9, 10 and 11.
