NO PRESIDENT ELECTED TODAY, NEXT SESSION ON THURSDAY

The parliament convened today for the eighth time to elect a president of the republic but no head of state has been chosen.

While MP Michel Mouawad obtained 37 votes, 52 lawmakers cast blank votes, two voted for former minister Ziad Baroud, and 4 chose Dr. Issam Khalife.

Speaker Nabih Berri scheduled a new session for next Thursday.
