Oman Donates 20 Buses to Boost Lebanon’s Public Transport Network
Beirut:Lebanon's Railway and Public Transport Authority has received a donation of 20 new buses from the Sultanate of Oman. The handover ceremony took place at Mar Mikhael train station in Beirut and was attended by Lebanon's Public Works and Transport Minister, Fayez Rasamny, alongside Omani Ambassador Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Said Al-Saidi.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Ziad Chaya, the Director General of the Authority, expressed gratitude for Oman's prompt delivery. He noted that the buses will bolster efforts to enhance the country's public transport capabilities.
Dr. Al-Saidi emphasized that Oman's donation is a demonstration of solidarity with Lebanon. He highlighted the importance of promoting increased usage of public transportation.
Minister Rasamny outlined that expanding the public transport network is a top priority, especially given the economic challenges faced by citizens. The current network includes 11 routes, with an additional five under development, potentially increasing to 16. Further expansion plans are under consideration.
Rasamny mentioned that the authority could manage a fleet of approximately 500 buses if adequate vehicles and resources are secured. He noted positive outcomes from collaboration with the private sector.
He also highlighted the necessity of integrating technology, carefully reviewing fare structures, and devising practical solutions to make commuting more affordable and efficient for the public.
