Parliamentary Committees Approve Draft General Amnesty Law, Preserving Rights of Army Martyrs’ Families

Beirut: The parliamentary committees have approved the proposed general amnesty law, as announced by Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab. The draft law ensures that the rights of the families of army martyrs to pursue personal claims before civil courts are preserved, emphasizing that the army was not involved in the conflicts.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bou Saab urged the government and the Minister of Justice to address ongoing trials and prevent unwarranted detentions. He emphasized the importance of considering feedback from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, along with the Army, and highlighted that the judiciary is responsible for delays in numerous cases.

Bou Saab noted that for cases involving the death penalty, the adopted prison term is 28 years, translating to approximately 21.5 years in effective detention.
