Plasschaert Visits Israel to Discuss Security and Stability Measures

Jerusalem: The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, began a visit to Israel today, where she is scheduled to meet with senior Israeli officials. The focus of the discussions will be on the implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Understanding reached on 26 November 2024, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the visit aims to reaffirm the importance of enhancing security and stability for the populations on both sides of the Blue Line. The Special Coordinator continues to call on all parties to prevent the creation of a new reality on the ground. She emphasizes the need to move forward in implementing the solutions stipulated in Security Council Resolution No. 1701.

Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006, primarily calls for an end to hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, the disarmament of armed groups in Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the southern part of the country. The ongoing talks are part of broader efforts to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
