Beirut: Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, engaged in a series of discussions with various delegates, emphasizing Lebanon’s stance against Israeli violations and the need for international support. Salam reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to ending hostilities and securing territorial integrity during his meeting with the Press Syndicate delegation, led by Dean Awni Al-Kaaki.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Premier Salam condemned the attacks on Beirut’s southern suburb and other regions, urging for the activation of monitoring mechanisms to halt these violations. He stressed that continued Israeli occupation threatens regional stability and emphasized Lebanon’s commitment to the agreement, urging Israel to fulfill its obligations. Salam highlighted the importance of support from the United States and France in achieving these goals.
Salam also revealed ongoing diplomatic efforts to garner support from influential powers, including Arab and European nations, to address these security concerns. He assured that the government is actively working to meet citizens’ security and economic needs, with a reconstruction plan underway focusing on infrastructure. Negotiations with the World Bank have secured $325 million, with efforts to increase this funding.
On municipal elections in Beirut, Salam promised impartiality and integrity in the electoral process, stressing the importance of maintaining unity in the capital. During his meeting with acting UNICEF Representative Aquil Ayar, Salam discussed children’s issues and reaffirmed the importance of joint cooperation to tackle challenges.
In discussions with Colombia’s Ambassador Edwin Ostos Alfonso, Salam explored bilateral relations and embassy activities. He also met with former MP Sami Fatfat to discuss upcoming municipal elections, particularly in Northern Lebanon. Additionally, Salam met with the Jad Association, focusing on security coordination to combat drug issues, and received a delegation from the Beirut Marathon Association, led by Mrs. May Khalil.
