Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Rayya El Hassan, on Friday met in her office at the Ministry with “Future Movement” Secretary General Ahmed Al-Hariri, with whom she discussed the general situation in the country.
Developmental affairs related to the various Lebanese regions also featured high on their talks.
Minister El Hassan also met with the Swiss Ambassador to Lebanon, Monika Schmutz Kirgoz, with talks reportedly touching on the bilateral relations and joint projects with the Ministry.
On emerging, Ambassador Kirgoz said she congratulated Minister El Hassan o her appointment as the first women Minister of the Interior in Lebanon and the Arab world.
Marking the International Women’s Day, Ambassador Kirgoz relayed her country’s support to women’s full rights, including women representation in government and parliament.
El Hassan also met with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis, with talks reportedly touching on the role undertaken by the UN in Lebanon, notably in supporting developmental, environmental and social projects.
Kubis congratulated El Hassan on the International Women’s Day and her appointment as the first female Minister of the Interior in Lebanon and the Arab world.
On emerging, Kubis said they dwelt on the issue of the Syrian refugees’ return to their country and how the UN can help in this regard.
Kubis stressed that this return must be carried out under the umbrella of the United Nations.
On the other hand, El Hassan met this afternoon with the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, with the latest political developments in Lebanon and the region featuring high on their talks.
El Hassan also welcomed in her office the Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, accompanied by UNHCR delegation.
Talks reportedly touched on the Syrian refugee dossier and supporting host municipalities.
