President Aoun Announces Upcoming Qatari Delegation Visit to Lebanon for Electricity Discussions

Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, presided over a Cabinet session at Baabda Palace, where he announced a forthcoming visit by a Qatari delegation to Lebanon. The visit aims to address the country’s ongoing electricity issues.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun used the Cabinet session to extend his Easter greetings to the Lebanese people. He also expressed condolences to the Ministry of Defense and the Army Command following the martyrdom of an Adjutant involved in mine and explosive dismantlement efforts in Tyre. Additionally, Aoun commended the Intelligence Directorate and General Security for their role in apprehending members of a cell responsible for launching rockets from southern Lebanon.

During the session, Aoun discussed his visits to the Traffic Management Authority and the Port of Beirut, emphasizing the potential of e-government to combat corruption and administrative delays. He called for collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and other relevant ministries to implement these digital solutions.

President Aoun shared insights from his recent visit to Qatar, highlighting productive talks with Qatari Emir Tamim. He noted Qatar’s readiness to support Lebanon’s military and its willingness to increase investments in the country. Aoun announced that a Qatari delegation would visit Lebanon next week to focus on the electricity issue, urging Qatar to expedite gas exploration efforts and praising its advancements in e-government and the achievements of Lebanese expatriates.

Aoun reiterated the importance of reforms, acknowledging international support contingent on their implementation. He praised the government’s progress on banking sector reform laws, which he has signed and forwarded to Parliament, and expressed hope for the Minister of Finance’s success in upcoming discussions with the International Monetary Fund in the United States. Aoun also emphasized the urgency of completing the financial gap draft law.

Addressing appointments within the government, Aoun expressed a desire to finalize appointments within the Council for Development and Reconstruction and to complete judicial and diplomatic formations without delay.
