President Joseph Aoun Urges Ceasefire During Meeting with UN Secretary-General

Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, emphasized the urgency of halting Israeli attacks and establishing a ceasefire during his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at Baabda Palace. Aoun highlighted the necessity of addressing the issues faced by over 800,000 displaced individuals and expressed gratitude for the United Nations' ongoing support for Lebanon. He noted that the continuation of Israeli attacks could destabilize the entire region.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun also conveyed his willingness to negotiate but mentioned that there has been no response from the other side. He called for international backing for Lebanon in these critical times. The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, expressed his solidarity with the Lebanese people, acknowledging the hardships they face. He urged for a ceasefire, appealing to Hezbollah and Israel to halt the conflict and find a solution that upholds Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Guterres stressed the importance of peace and solidarity, noting the cultural significance of Ramadan and Lent in Lebanon. He expressed hope for a future visit to a peaceful Lebanon where the state maintains control over the use of force and its territorial integrity is respected. Guterres concluded by emphasizing that the current era demands strong states rather than armed groups.
