Salam Meets Delegation from Iqlim al-Kharroub on Displacement Crisis

Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Monday met MP Bilal Abdallah, a member of the Democratic Gathering bloc, along with the heads of the northern and southern Iqlim al-Kharroub municipal unions and the director of the region's crisis cell to discuss the impact of displacement.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, after the meeting, Abdallah said the delegation briefed Salam on the work of the local crisis cell and the scale of displacement in the area since the start of the Israeli attacks. Abdallah mentioned that the region has received nearly 100,000 displaced people within a limited geographic area, placing heavy pressure on municipalities and local capacities.

Abdallah added that the delegation outlined growing humanitarian needs and the efforts of municipalities and relief teams to provide shelter centers and housing for displaced families, warning that support requirements will increase in the coming phase. He praised the government's attention to the issue and acknowledged the efforts of Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar, Social Affairs Minister Haneen Al-Sayyed, the Higher Relief Commission, and various organizations assisting displaced families.

Abdallah stressed that municipalities remain the first line of response in the crisis and called for accelerating the payment of financial dues to municipalities by the Finance Ministry so they can continue their work. Salam also received Australian Ambassador Andrew Barnes on a farewell visit marking the end of his diplomatic mission in Lebanon.
