Salam Vows to Shield Lebanon from Becoming a Battleground for External Conflicts

Salam: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized the urgent need to escalate diplomatic measures to secure a ceasefire, condemning Israel's actions as a policy of "complete destruction" rather than mere expansion.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Prime Minister Salam addressed the nation from the Grand Serail, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of Israel's attacks which aim for "total devastation" and not just the targeting of specific sites. He argued that these actions are not only a blatant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty but also an aggressive attempt to "erase history."

Salam reiterated the Lebanese government's commitment to ending the war, protecting Lebanon, and ensuring that the country does not become a pawn in the larger conflicts of other nations. He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding current negotiations but clarified that engaging in talks does not equate to surrender. Instead, he described negotiations as "the least costly option for our country," emphasizing that they are led by the Lebanese state representing all its citizens. He asserted that decisions regarding war and peace remain a sovereign national prerogative.

In a message directed towards residents of southern Lebanon, Salam expressed solidarity, stating, "Your suffering is Lebanon's suffering." He assured them of the government's relentless efforts to establish a lasting ceasefire, facilitate the return of the displaced, and support reconstruction initiatives.

Concluding his address, Salam called for unity among the Lebanese people, stating, "Lebanon will overcome this ordeal when we unite under one state that holds the decision and one army."
