RT correspondent reported that several deaths and injuries resulted from an explosion likely to be a suicide bomber, on Istiklal Street in the center of Istanbul, Turkey this afternoon.

He said: “4 deaths and 11 injuries have been recorded so far, some of them very serious,” noting that “the street famous for being a popular tourist destination in the city, was very crowded at the moment of the explosion.”

For his part, the governor of Istanbul confirmed the deaths and injuries in the Taksim Square explosion in central Istanbul.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu said on Twitter: “It is necessary to help our police and health teams regarding the explosion on Istiklal Street, and to avoid posts that may cause fear and panic. We will provide health information with all relevant teams in the area.”
