President Aoun mourns Sfeir

President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, calling on all Lebanese, especially the Maronite community, to pray for his soul in recognition of his spiritual, humanitarian and national status.

“In the absence of Patriarch Sfeir, who lived for more than a century and spent more than 70 years of his life in priesthood, the Maronite Church has lost one of the most prominent patriarchs who had fingerprints on church affairs, heritage and traditions,” Aoun said.

“The national arena will miss the presence of the late Patriarch, a man of solid faith in his national positions and in defending Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence at the most difficult stage, especially in his drive to achieve the Mountain reconciliation because he believed in the charter of coexistence, and consolidation of national partnership, ” Aoun added.

The President also deemed that Patriarch Sfeir will remain a milestone pillar in the nation’s conscience and one of Lebanon’s greatest men throughout history, calling for his political and spiritual positions to be a source of inspiration to maintain his place in the hearts of the new generations.
