Sweden hosts EU-Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum

Sweden, which holds the current European Union Presidency, Saturday hosts the second EU-Indo-Pacific Forum aiming to strengthen partnership between the EU and the Indo-Pacific region, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said.

“We are looking very much forward to host the EU-Indo pacific Ministerial forum in Stockholm. Together we have the possibility to have a strong impact when it comes to free trade, when it comes to climate change, when it comes to security,” he told reporters ahead of the meeting.

“We have now a strong momentum in relationship between the Indo-Pacific and the EU and this is something to build on,” he added.

The Stockholm Forum will bring EU Foreign Ministers, Foreign Ministers from the Indo-Pacific region, representatives of EU institutions and representatives of a number of regional organisations and other partners.

The one-day meeting will be co-chaired by EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Billstrom.

The meeting will discuss common challenges with respect to security, trade, global value chains, digitalisation, the green transition and energy security.

The First Indo-pacific Forum was held in February 2022, in Paris, under the then French EU Presidency.
