Syria Security Forces Conduct Large-Scale Operation in Homs Against Alleged War Criminals

HOMS: Syrian security forces have initiated a comprehensive operation in Homs, targeting neighborhoods historically associated with the Alawite minority, according to reports from state media. The operation, reportedly aimed at apprehending those labeled as ‘war criminals’ by the Syrian government, has also involved efforts to confiscate weapons and ammunition hidden within these districts.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the Syrian Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Military Operations Department, has launched this extensive combing operation within the city of Homs. The state news agency SANA quoted a security official stating that the mission focuses on individuals accused of war crimes who have not surrendered their weapons or appeared at settlement centers designated for reconciliation and disarmament.

The state media further indicated that military officials had been informed weeks prior about the presence of remnants of former president Bashar al-Assad’s militias in parts of Homs. Since the deposition of al-Assad last month, the transitional government has been actively engaging with former soldiers and conscripts, urging them to disarm and participate in reconciliation efforts.

To support the ongoing operation, authorities have deployed troops and armored units to Homs, with strict instructions to locate individuals resisting the settlement process. Additionally, a curfew has been enforced in certain areas of the city to maintain order and facilitate the security sweep.
